From Hiroshima to Mainz

We are delighted to share a report by Dr. Hanna Lindner of the Radiation Effects Research Foundation in Hiroshima, Japan:

As an early-career researcher, I am especially grateful for the opportunity to have visited IMBEI in the charming city of Mainz, supported by VEBIK. Over the course of the week, I shared the work and expertise of the Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF) through presentations to students and faculty, while also learning from the expertise of attendees and other invited speakers.

The most valuable aspect of the week was the opportunity for exchange and connection. In a niche field like (radiation) epidemiology, opportunities for trainees and early-career researchers to interact closely with established experts and colleagues who are ten years ahead in their careers are invaluable.

The schedule also included social activities that encouraged conversations outside the classroom, as well as a memorable visit to the TRIGA research reactor—my first ‘field trip’ in many years. Experiencing Mainz itself was an added highlight, providing a welcoming setting for both scientific exchange and new friendships.

My sincere gratitude to VEBIK and its supporters for making this experience possible!
